My daughter used to hate Monday mornings. Now she wakes me up because she does not want to be late for robotics club. That is all I needed to know about this school.
We moved here from another country and my son spoke almost no English. His tutor called us every Friday for three months. By Christmas he was in the school play.
Teachers answer emails the same day and they are honest with us, even when the news is not good. The cafeteria could be cheaper, but the school is excellent.
The free Wednesday afternoon sounded strange at first. In practice it is the best thing about the week โ my twins finally have time to be children again.
The teaching is very good and my son is happy. My only real complaint is the car park at 8:30 in the morning โ it is chaos, and the school knows it.
My daughter is dyslexic. Here, nobody treats that as a problem to hide. She gets her extra time without having to ask, and her English grade went from a D to a B.
The 90-minute lessons changed everything for me. In chemistry we actually finish the experiment instead of packing up halfway through.
I started the school newspaper in Year 9 with three friends. Two years later we print 400 copies a term and I know I want to be a journalist.
Honestly, the homework is still homework. But teachers here explain why we are doing it, and that makes a difference when it is 9pm on a Tuesday.
I left Skylark in 2022. At university, my first presentation was easy โ I had already defended a project in front of two hundred people when I was fifteen.
The climbing wall at lunchtime, the garden, the piano in the common room. Small things, but they are the reason I actually like being at school.
I was very shy in Year 7. My Year 10 buddy ate lunch with me every day for a month. This year I am somebody else's buddy.
Book a tour any Wednesday afternoon, or come to the Open Day on 12 November.
