Questions families ask us most
Click a question to see the answer. If yours is not here, the form above is the fastest way to reach us.
How long does a lesson last?
Ninety minutes. We run four lessons a day instead of the usual six or seven. It means fewer subjects a day, enough time to finish an experiment or a discussion, and a much lighter school bag.
What time does the school day start and finish?
Doors open at 8:30 and the first lesson starts at 9:00. Lessons finish at 15:00, followed by quiet study until 15:30 and clubs until 17:00. On Wednesdays there are no afternoon lessons at all.
How many students are there in a class?
Eighteen at most, and twelve in language and laboratory groups. The whole school has 640 students, from Year 7 to Year 13.
Which subjects do students have to take?
Mathematics, Sciences, English, French, Spanish, History & Geography, Computer Science and PE are compulsory for everyone. From Year 10, students add two specialities of their choice β for example Visual Arts, Music, Philosophy or Design & Technology.
Do students have to join a club?
Yes β one club minimum, and it is the student who chooses it. There are 24 of them, from football and climbing to robotics and the school newspaper. If none of them fits, four students and one teacher are enough to create a new one.
Is there a uniform?
No uniform. We ask for clothes that are comfortable, respectful of others, and suitable for a laboratory or a workshop β closed shoes on practical days.
How much homework is there?
One hour a night maximum in Years 7 to 9, and ninety minutes in Years 10 to 13. Teachers coordinate so that four subjects never set work on the same evening. Homework help is available every day from 15:00 to 15:30.
What about students who need extra support?
Each student has a tutor who follows them for the whole year and meets their family three times. We have a learning-support teacher on site, extra time in exams where it is needed, and small catch-up groups in Mathematics and English at lunchtime.
How do I enrol my child?
Send us the form above, or call reception. We invite the family for a visit and a conversation β there is no entrance exam. Applications for September open on 15 January and close on 31 March.
Can we visit before deciding?
Please do. Open Day is on 12 November, and we also run private tours every Wednesday afternoon during term time. The tour is given by two students, not by an adult.
Are there school trips?
Every year group goes away at least once: a three-day trip in Year 7, exchanges with Lyon and Seville in Year 9, a science trip in Year 11, and a week abroad in Year 12. The school fund covers the cost for any family who needs it.
What happens at lunchtime?
Lunch lasts seventy minutes and is cooked on site, with two hot menus a day, one of them always vegetarian. After eating, the library, the climbing wall, the music rooms and the garden are all open.
The best way to understand a school is to walk into it.
